 GlobalWebIndex has listed the top 10 apps most actively used by the 969.49 million strong global smartphone population.

1. Google Maps:

Google Maps is the most used smartphone app, with over 54 per cent of the global smartphone population using the app in the last month. Apple Maps is nowhere to be seen but Nokia's Ovi Maps clocks 9 per cent of smartphone usage and ranks No. 11 in the chart. 

2. Facebook:

Though the Facebook mobile app may seem to be the most widely used app by smartphone users, but it is ranked a distant number 2. The app is used by 44 per cent of global smartphone users, Google Maps is a good 10 per cent ahead. 

3. Youtube: 

After topping the list with its Google Maps app, Google also takes number 3 with YouTube (35 per cent).

4. Google + : 

 Google+ mobile app is at number 4 (30 per cent). It seems to be popular among smartphone users.

5. Wechat:

The research reveals that the Chinese-based service is being actively used by the 27 per cent of the global smartphone population. It is a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by Tencent in China, first released in January 2011. The app is available on Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, and Symbian platforms.

6. Twitter:

At number 6 is Twitter's mobile App with a 22 per cent active usage.
Twitter is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets".
Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and by July, the social networking site was launched.

 

7. Skype:

The company announced the availability of this new feature while announcing that it has now hit the 300 million monthly active users mark. With this new feature, you can record and send voice clips with one press of the mic icon.

This feature will be available on all its platforms within 24 hours.

• What's interesting about this feature is that it is simple with less taps on the screen to get the job done. You just press the record button to record your message and let go of the mic icon once ur done to send the message.
• If you decide not to send the message then you just swipe to the left to delete the recording. There is no time length limit when recording a message therefore users can get as creative as they want.
• Another interesting feature is that the playback of a voice text will automatically switch from handset's speakers to its earpiece when the device is held to your ear. The mic icon also turns blue when recipients have listened to the message .

According to Google, "Each restricted profile offers an isolated and secure space with its own local storage, home screens, widgets, and settings. Unlike with users, profiles are created from the tablet owner’s environment, based on the owner’s installed apps and system accounts. The owner controls which installed apps are enabled in the new profile, and access to the owner’s accounts is disabled by default."

2.  Bluetooth Smart Ready support:

 The new Android OS now includes native Bluetooth Smart support or Bluetooth Low-Energy. Devices such as the Nexus 4 and the new Nexus 7 are now Bluetooth Smart Ready. Furthermore, Bluetooth AVRCP 1.3 support has been added, meaning that song names will now be displayed on car stereos.

3.  Graphics Capabilities:

 Android 4.3 now supports OpenGL ES 3.0 – “the latest version of the industry standard for high performance graphics“. In a nutshell, version 3.0 supports better and more complex 2D and 3D graphics, as well as new options for texture compression and shaders. Evidently, this will allow app developers to create more graphically advanced applications / mobile games.

4.  Notification Access:

 People love those notifications at the top of their Android display. I know I do. I'm constantly checking them. Until this new version of Android appeared developers couldn't access this data stream. Now they can. That is, if you, the user, allow them to.

What developers can do is register a notification listener service that, with your blessing, will receive all the data notifications when they're displayed in the status bar. Developers can then launch applications or services for a new class of "smart" apps.

5.  Improved Audio:

For owners of devices that feature stereo speakers (such as the new Nexus 7), Android 4.3 brings virtual surround audio to the table. This particular feature delivers a quasi-surround effect which has been used for various speakers and headphones for many years. Samsung 'Galaxy Note 3' to be launched on September 4

Samsung today announced that it will be hosting a special event on 4 September in Berlin where it will launch a new Galaxy smartphone. Most expect the Galaxy Note III will be launched at the event.

 Like the two previous generations of Note phablets, the Note 3 will be unveiled at annual technology trade show IFA in Berlin, this time at a special event entitled Samsung Unpacked 2013 Episode 2.

Features:

• It is believed that this year that Samsung will slightly increase the size of the display for the handset to 5.7-inch and it will have a Full HD resolution, which makes sense when you look at the history of the Note series as well as the Galaxy S flagship range.

New 'HTC One Max' phablet

It looks like Taiwan-based HTC is gearing up to add a new phablet - HTC One Max - to its existing One series. According to French site Nowhereelse, the first pictures of this smartphone have leaked out, and one cannot miss the massive 5.9-inch display on the One Max

It's been rumoured that Taiwanese handset maker, HTC is working on different variants of its flagship smartphone, the HTC One.

 Taiwanese site, ePrice has posted some images of the alleged HTC One Max that reveals the design of the yet to be announced handset.

Some of its key features:

•  The latest rumour to hit the Web is the HTC One Max which is likely to feature a 5.9-inch HD display and a metal design similar to the one boasted by the HTC One.
• It's said to run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, out-of-the-box.
• The device is likely to be powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, while the original HTC One is powered by a Snapdragon 600 processor. While the One Max also features the same UltraPixel and 2.1-megapixel front-facing cameras as the HTC One.
• Other features include 2GB of RAM, 16GB storage and a 3300mAh battery.
•  The report also claimed that the device would be a dual SIM phone and would be LTE compatible.

 None of the details have been confirmed by the company, yet.

New Sony Honami aka Xperia i1 with 20MP camera

In the past few weeks, speculated features and pictures of the camera-centric Xperia i1 smartphone, a.k.a Honami, have been making headlines. Now, the phone has surfaced on a benchmark website, revealing certain key specs of the upcoming Sony device.

A popular smartphone benchmark testing site, GFXBench has popped up with this new phone, almost confirming the existence of the high-end Sony phone.

The Japanese electronics company is expected to showcase its camera centric high-end smartphone at the international technology trade fair, IFA  on September 4.

 

Some of its key features are:

• Its main USP is 20MP camera boasting of Exmor RS image sensor technology, CMOS sensor. It will also feature Sony's exclusive G-lens and an image processor 'BIONZ' which are only seen in the high-end DSLR cameras. The smartphone will sport a 2.0-megapixel Exmor R camera on the front side.
• In order to further enhance the photography experience, Sony is said to pack camera tools such as advanced and manual options, time-shift burst mode, Sweep Panorama options, Social Live feature (which allows users to broadcast live video on social platform like Facebook), Info-eye feature, AR Effect feature, which lets user to put 'Augmented Reality' scenarios on to a picture, and many more filter options.

•  In terms of internal hardware, it is expected to house a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor paired with Adreno 330 graphics engine. Memory wise, it is said pack 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory with options of expansion through microSD card.
•  It would sport a 5.0-inch full HD Triluminos screen which boasts of X-Reality display technology and run on Android v4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.

•  The battery, while still non-removable, will be bumped to 3,000mAh, from the 2,330mAh on the Xperia Z.
• The Sony Xperia i1 is said to be IP57 certified, which it is completely dust-protected and will withstand a meter of water for 30 minutes.

Record a Call on Android
